Victims of the Aztec ritual of human sacrifice are displayed at the Templo Mayor museum in Centro Histórico area of Mexico City. The gory practice appeased their gods. Aztec priests used blades to remove the beating hearts from victims’ bodies. They then threw the corpses down the lofty steps of the temple.
