An eastern section of El Castillo’s signature plaster frieze is shown in the afternoon shadows at the Maya ruins of Xunantunich near San Ignacio, Belize. The frieze, which wraps itself around the towering temple, illustrates creation myths and the worship of ancestors by the ancient Maya.
