Video of Aswan’s Nubian Village (Egypt)

My video films the boat I hired approaching the landing at the Nubian village in the area of Aswan, Egypt. The settlement is situated on the west bank of the Nile River. Dressed in the grey robe, the village chief is shown walking to meet my vessel; he is the first to greet everyone who visits his community.
Aswan’s Nubian village is in the geographical heart of a region that held some of the earliest kingdoms in Africa. Nubia is laden with gold, and it was also a critical checkpoint on the south-to-north trading route that brought valuable resources like ebony, ivory, and incense from sub-Saharan Africa to civilizations along the Mediterranean Sea.
Nubia’s location made it rich and, in turn, formidable: At one point, Nubian rulers conquered and controlled ancient Egypt for around a century. Click to watch my high-definition video that walks you through the immaculate Great Temple at Abu Simbel, a settlement to the south of Aswan near the Sudanese border.
