Video of Hiking the Grandview Trail (Grand Canyon)

A spectacular northerly view of the Grand Canyon spreads for miles from my vantage point on the Grandview Trail, a hiking route that begins on the South Rim. The old mining trail was built in 1893, and it leads to the ruins of a settlement at Horseshoe Mesa. The three-mile (4.8 kms) trek is steep and treacherous; the park service rarely maintains the trail, which plunges 2,500 feet (762 m) from its start at Grandview Point. Save the restrooms near the campground at Horseshoe Mesa, there are no services on the Grandview Trail.
