Perhaps the most geographically limited snake species in the world, the Grand Canyon rattlesnake is only found within the vicinity of Arizona’s iconic park. I filmed this one coiled in The Box, a narrow gorge that’s part the North Kaibab Trail. The Grand Canyon rattlesnake primarily hunts rodents and lizards and can grow to around four-and-a-half feet (1.4 m) in length. The rattler’s venom may provide surprising benefits to medical science: An element of the poison has been found to have antibacterial properties and could also help lower high blood pressure.
