Fajada Butte rises from the floor of Chaco Canyon in remote northwest New Mexico. The landmark is south of Chaco Culture National Historical Park’s observatory. The canyon was the location of a critically important Ancestral Puebloan population center prior to the arrival of European colonizers; it continues to be a sacred place for Native Americans living in the Four Corners region of the Southwestern United States.
