Lights illuminate the iconic Eiffel Tower in the French capital of Paris. The structure stands at a current height of 1,084 feet and can be seen across much of the metropolis. Since its construction in 1889, the tower has been one of the most recognizable landmarks in the world. It was only supposed to stand for 20 years, but the scientific experiments that it facilitated (i.e., radio and telecommunication transmissions) saved it from demolition.
