Tourists labor up the many steps of Caana, the largest building at the ruins of Caracol Natural Monument Reservation, Belize. The active archaeological site is south of San Ignacio in the dense jungle. Caana, which is Maya for “sky place,” towers above the surrounding wilderness, reaching around 143 feet (44 m) in height. It includes three temples and four palace complexes.
