My video takes you through the monumental gateway of Edfu’s Temple of Horus and into its forecourt, where the walls depict scenes of the Feast of the Joyous Union. The 15-day celebration was the ancient Egyptian city’s most important, commemorating the ritualized marriage between the gods Horus of Edfu and Hathor of Dendera. The artwork on the pylons at the beginning of the clip portray dramatized highlights from the life of Ptolemy XII, the pharaoh who completed the monument.
