Wright Square’s monument towers above the plaza on a quiet autumn day. The square is said to be haunted by hanged criminals from Savannah’s colonial days. The most famous of the ghosts is Alice Riley, who was hung on the square’s gallows in 1735 after murdering a cattle farmer.
