The Pirates’ House restaurant in Savannah has a rich history that dates back almost three centuries. The site was originally the home of the gardener who tended to America’s first experimental garden, but it was soon converted to an inn and tavern for seafarers. An old rum cellar is underneath, and many sailors were kidnapped and transported through its adjoining tunnel to the Savannah River. The structure and its underlying cellar are thought to be haunted by the ghosts of maritime men and women who were shanghaied.
